Refunds and credits

Updated August 21, 2026

Different kinds of money have different return rules. This page explains the rules for future 86d managed services and separates them from payments that shoppers make to independent merchants.

Purchased Funds

Purchased Funds in 86d Balance do not expire. They can pay only for 86d Cloud and other managed 86d services when those services become available. They cannot be withdrawn as cash or transferred to another business.

When a business closes, each managed store must first be transferred or permanently deleted, and all service charges and other obligations must be settled. We then return unused Purchased Funds to the original funding method. The time needed to process the return and the status of that funding method may affect how it completes.

Promotional Credits

Promotional Credits are service-only, nontransferable, and nonrefundable. Unused trial credit expires at the original trial deadline. Suspension, restoration, or adding Purchased Funds does not extend that deadline.

Incorrect or duplicate service charges

Contact us if a completed 86d service charge appears more than once, uses the wrong published rate, or covers a service request that was not accepted. We compare the charge with our service records. If we confirm an error, we add a correction so the original charge and correction remain visible.

Shopper purchases and third-party payments

The business operating the store is the seller. Send product, cancellation, return, and refund requests to that business. If it uses a payment company other than 86d, its refund policy and its agreement with that company govern the payment. 86d does not charge a checkout fee for that option. 86d is not the seller or merchant of record and does not guarantee the purchase.

86d Payments

86d Payments is not available for live use. Under the planned policy, 86d changes its fee only after the payment outcome is confirmed. A void, full refund, merchant cancellation, or chargeback won by the buyer removes the complete 86d fee. A partial refund recalculates the percentage using the eligible merchandise that remains. The $0.50 fixed amount remains while any eligible merchandise remains.

Costs related to refunds, disputes, reserves, and chargebacks remain the merchant’s responsibility unless 86d caused the failure. The final payment terms, including terms from the payment company, will be shown before activation.

Rhyming Slang for "Nix"

Long before it hit the restaurant floor, "nix" was the word for shutting something down—refusing it, canceling it, killing it on the spot. Somewhere along the way, "eighty-six" latched on as rhyming slang, and the number stuck. Nix became 86, and 86 became the way you made something disappear.
